Me, Myself, and I

Clean Shave

All three of these paintings are self-portraits. The top wasn't ever finished; I didn't paint on my goatee. So, I thought it'd be funny to just call it Clean Shave.

The second was loosely inspired by the art style of the the comic illustrator, Ivan Reis, who I am a big fan of. The last piece, 60 Percent, was an assignment we were given over the summer. I had to create a self-portrait at an "unusual angle", and that was the strangest one I could think of. The only reason I added the sea life was because my cheek was a huge, boring, blank space. 

What Matters...

The Missing Piece Is You

You ever have that feeling that something dear is missing? Even if everything seems fine? Thats where this came from. I had put a real puzzle together, and painted over it in acrylic.

Color My Life

A self-portrait of me in the center, with everyone that has had an impact on me that most at the time surrounding my portrait. To give the others in the piece a sense of ownership, I colored them in the colors that they like the most.

Gods and Demons

Angel

 Devil

I really let my imagination go crazy on these concepts. The top image is an angel, and the lower one is a devil, obviously. I wanted the devil to be noticeably related to the angel, as if it literally evolved from an angel. To add irony, the devil is the only one with real wings. But they both share very aquatic features.

Ambush

 This ink drawing was based on a short story, simply titled Ambush, which the main character's daughter asked if he ever killed anyone in the Vietnam War. The piece depicts his memory of the one time he killed a man.

Theresa

This piece is actually very personal; it simply represents a time in my life where it was just me and my mom, and our struggle after moving to Dallas, Texas.

Both of these pieces were done in earlier in 2011. Heh, Im still proud of them. :)
